The Austrian quintet deliver a successful update to the sound of Soul Jazz on their new LP.

Five years following the widely acclaimed release of 'Places and Spaces', innumerable solo projects and highly popular diversions into more or less foreign terrain – including sessions with Parov Stelar, Hubert von Goisern and Nils Landgren – Jazzodrom at last return to the international scene with the release of “Another World”. Their third studio album presents the band at their zenith; the highly delicate compositions on “Another World” are their trademark interpretations of Modern Jazz.

The sound that the members of the band create together is as varied as each of the members themselves. On their new album, Jazzodrom deliver a rich synthesis formed from the old traditions of Soul Jazz and the myriad influences each member of the band has drawn from their heterogeneous artistic realities. Fragile motives meet urban groove, velvety hooks meet no-compromise breakbeat and smoky acoustic instrumentation meets modern electronic sounds. The band have fun expanding their boundaries and blowing away the conventional listening experience. Their openness to other genres is characterised by their highly successful cooperation with the Spring String Quartet and the

UK soul singer Pete Simpson, extending their spectrum to include Classical and Popular influences.

They play their new tracks with unmatched spontaneous vitality. On “Another World” the band become a grooving sound source that reaches a previously undiscovered cruising level over the individual peaks of each element. The fine interaction of the musicians develops into an extraordinarily integrative force that accommodates even the most elaborate virtuosities harmoniously as their rich sound takes full shape. Thankfully, Jazzodrom ignore elitist hermetic discourse to focus entirely on making music that engages the listener.

On their new album, Jazzodrom have picked up their own, unmistakable sound and taken it to a completely new level. “Another World” is daring, fresh and beautiful– the sound of the future of jazz!

THE TEACHERS BAND (CUENCA)

The Teachers Band nace en Cuenca en 1998, concretamente en la EU de Magisterio de Cuenca donde cinco estudiantes se reúnen con cierta frecuencia a tocar distintos estilos musicales con el único ánimo de disfrutar de la música que les gusta. En principio, las actuaciones públicas del grupo tienen lugar en fiestas universitarias y como colaboración en actos organizados por la Universidad.

Con el paso del tiempo, la formación ha ido sufriendo modificaciones hasta llegar al momento actual donde está compuesta por José Mencías (saxos y voz), José Ángel de Lerma (teclado), José Luis Bermejo (guitarra) y Pedro Miguel Valero (batería).

Al igual que los integrantes del grupo, el repertorio se ha ido ampliando con los años y en la actualidad por la gran variedad con el que cuenta se pueden cubrir distintos tipos de eventos.

La actividad del grupo se ha desarrollado fundamentalmente en Cuenca y provincia (locales que apuestan por la música en vivo, semanas culturales, conciertos didácticos promovidos por la Consejería de Educación y otras instituciones, celebraciones privadas, festivales de jazz,…).
